Do solar panels need lightning protection? The short answer is: it depends on your location, system size, and local lightning activity-but most systems benefit from some level of protection.
In fact, solar panels are routinely exposed to sunlight without being connected to a load - during shipping, storage, or even cloudy days when the inverter is off. Manufacturers design them to tolerate high open-circuit voltages (Voc); There is no current, so there's no power.
The main reasons your solar panels may not be charging your battery include faulty connections, insufficient sunlight, a defective battery, improper system size, or incorrect settings on the solar charge controller.
The blue color is mainly due to an anti-reflective coating that helps improve the absorbing capacity and efficiency of the solar panels. Black solar panels (monocrystalline) are often more efficient as black surfaces more naturally absorb light.
Operating a generator with insufficient liquid ingress protection in the rain risks electrical hazards and equipment damage. In extreme cases, this could create a fire hazard.
While it's certainly possible to walk on solar panels, it is not recommended. Solar panels are made of very thin and fragile tempered glass, and the weight and pressure of a footstep could easily crack the glass or pop it out from its frame.
